Main Tera Hero – This hero doesnt rise!!

Story: Sreenath Prasad aka Seenu (Varun Dhawan) comes to Bangalore for studies and falls in love with Sunaina (Ileana DCruz). But a corrupt cop Angad Negi (Arunoday Singh) has forced Sunaina to marry him. How Seenu gets his love from the clutches of Angad, while tackling obstacles in the form of Vikrant (Anupam Kher) a Don from Thailand and his crazy daughter Aisha (Nargis Fakhri), forms the rest of the story.

Performances: Varun Dhawan gets ample opportunity to show his comic side and he does it unabashedly. Be it aping other actors, showing-off his abs, dancing to some whacky tunes, he does it all in true David Dhawan style. He is a great talent and has a bright future. Getting into the comic zone in his second movie could have been a risk but the versatile actor takes up the challenge and comes out with flying colours. Ileana D’Cruz plays the damsel in distress and gets limited scope. She is decent. Nargis Fakhri looks glamorous and gets an opportunity to explore her comical side with this movie. She is pretty decent but needs to work on her diction before dubbing on her own. Arunoday Singh is a total miscast as a comical villain. The actor gives his best shot but doesn’t meet the expectations. Anupam Kher is a riot. His dialogue delivery especially the echoing part definitely brings the house down. The actor appears in the second half and does a great job with his impeccable comic timing. Saurabh Shukla is another actor who shines in the second half. He is brilliant in most of the second half. Rajpal Yadav, Raju Kher and Shakti Kapoor are wasted. Manoj Pahwa and Supriya Shukla are ok as Seenu’s parents. Evelyn Sharma is casted in a thankless role. Salman Khan’s voiceover is hilarious and best part of the movie.

Technical Team: David Dhawan is back after Chashme Baddoor and this time with his talented son. He does a great job in displaying the histrionics of his son, but his direction lacks conviction. Screenplay by Tushar Hiranandani is bad, as most of the scenes pass by like advertisements, with no connection to each other. It is like a collage of several funny moments which is played one after the other, without taking the story anywhere. There are subtle changes done to make this remake of a Telugu Hit Kandireega suitable to Hindi audience, but except for certain twists from the original included in the second half the movie never gains momentum. Dialogues by Milap Zaveri are decent and hilarious in most of the parts. Some of the lines do fall flat but there are enough to keep the audience giggling. Cinematography by Sanjay F Gupta is effective and so is the Background Music by Sandeep Shirodkar. Music by Sajid-Wajid has the David Dhawan stamp with Palat, Besharmi ki Height and Shanivar Raati being the best of the lot. Choreography by Remo, Bosco-Caesar and Ganesh Acharya is vibrant and matches up to the dancing skills of Varun Dhawan. Editor Nitin Rokade is in control till the interval but loses track in the second half. Action by Mahendra Varma is mediocre.

Best Scenes:
* Seenu’s conversations with different Gods
* Seenu meeting Sunaina at her house
* Seenu tricking Angad
* Scenes involving Anupam Kher and Saurabh Shukla
* The Kissing episode

Conclusion: David Dhawan has remade a lot of Southern hits and made a career out of it. This time he attempts one with his son but fails in his execution. The scenes play like gags being played one after another. First half moves like the speed of a bullet with you wondering what just happened and the second half drags unnecessarily. As mentioned earlier the twists from the original has been retained but executed in a haphazard manner. The writer might have lost out of ideas by the second half of the movie because of which the ending appears rushed and forced. The other disappointment is casting of Arunoday Singh who doesn’t match the requirement of a strong antagonist with a comical side. He looks very flimsy while enacting comic scenes. Nevertheless the movie can be watched for Varun Dhawan, glamor show by both the actresses and few comical scenes. The movie has a potential hero but unfortunately his heroics doesn’t really excite you.
